Professional Activities Timeline

1988 – 1990

Pre-school committee member.

1991 – 1999

Established my own early year’s day nursery business at the height of a recession – no previous business experience, no early years’ qualification and I had two young sons.

Later achieved a nursery management qualification, became a NVQ Assessor and acquired an Adult Education Teaching Certificate to support my business aims and objectives.

Key player in the 1990’s in establishing a Southampton and Waterside Area Nursery Network and later the Hampshire Day Nursery Network (officer roles) – set up to support local childcare and EY business owners/managers.

Established my business as a reputable training establishment in Hampshire; becoming one of the first nurseries locally to accept and train young people through a newly launched early years’ apprenticeship scheme.

First daycare nursery business owner in Southampton to have a young person achieve a NVQ in childcare and another receive the ‘Trainee of the year’ award from Hampshire Training and Enterprise Council.

Member of Southampton City Council’s Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership (representing the private sector) to influence and establish council policy on EY issues.

Established second nursery business.

End 1999 – 2000

First small business owner in the early year’s sector in Hampshire to be awarded ‘Investor in People’ (award given to employer in recognition of investment in staff training and development to support the strategic direction of the business).

Successful annual review of the ‘Investor in People’ award just prior to sale of business in January 2001.

2001

Successful sale of business to Bupa Childcare enabling me to further develop my EY career.

End 2001 – 2015

Secured post with Local Authority as an officer advising, supporting and training all EY providers – post also enabled me to develop a vast range of additional skills and expertise and to gain additional qualifications.

Represented my service (Services for Young Children – SfYC) through Hampshire’s first Serious Case Review (SCR) involving pre-school aged children.

Achieved Level 7 BTEC Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership.

2016

Established independent advisory service, Early Years Advocacy having ceased employment with the Local Authority (HCC) in December 2015.

Launched EY Business owners/managers network supporting providers from Hampshire and Southampton.

Achieved DISC accreditation (Personality Profiling) to support with Personal Development Coaching.

Became an associate trainer for the National Day Nursery Association (NDNA) – Registered Charity No. 107827.

Became a member of NEyTCO (National Early Years Trainers and Consultants Organisation); a Community Interest Company.

2017

Acquired the Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching awarded by The Coaching Academy.
