What is coaching about?

Coaching is about supporting individuals to create clarity and realise their potential.

A coach will simply support the client with their thinking and planning through the journey that they are taking, helping to create manageable actions to move towards their overall goal or aspiration or a task that they want to complete. It assists in getting from A-B, perhaps quicker than you would on your own by asking pertinent questions and using coaching ‘models’ that have a certain amount of simplicity attached to them.

My ‘Personal Development Coaching’ is not just available to Early Years and Childcare professionals but anyone that feels that they would benefit from the approach.

How will the sessions work?

To commence the coaching we would carry out an ‘intake session’ where we would settle into the coaching relationship and talk about your goals, aspirations or tasks that you have just not been able to start or complete. It is also an opportunity for me to find out about your priorities in life and/or at work and about your core values and beliefs; what drives you and impacts on all that you do, the way you behave and how you respond to different situations. This would take about 1 ¼ hours. After the initial ‘intake session’ follow up coaching sessions will follow a 6 part process as follows:

  • review the previous session and the actions that you had set yourself
  • discuss the focus for the forthcoming session and set the goal for that session
  • consider the reality of your current situation in relation to this goal to help me understand any deeper issues
  • explore ideas and options to help you to meet this goal, challenging your thinking as appropriate
  • help you to decide on the way forward, agree some actions and what you are going to commit to doing and when
  • summarise and conclude the session

These sessions are 1 hour long in duration and are carried out face to face (or via SKYPE or over the telephone, by arrangement). I will manage the timing to ensure you gain full value from the session.

What can I expect from coaching?

You can expect to be asked questions and you can expect to be listened to in a totally confidential and non-judgemental environment. You can expect to be challenged in your current way of thinking to find the paths that make you feel more congruent with aspects of your life and/or work. Fundamentally changing the way of your current thinking about certain challenges, when this is necessary to help you to achieve your goal. Locating unhelpful thought patterns and discovering a more resourceful state. You can expect to discover manageable steps and agree some actions to move you from where you are now to where you want to be.

Can you help me to sort out my problems?

As a coach I do not sort out your problems for you. I believe that you have all the answers that you need and I assist by tapping into your internal resources to get you from the place that you are to where you would prefer to be. I will explain in person what coaching is and isn’t.

How many other people have you worked with so far?

I have worked with many people over the years. I have however only been using ‘The Coaching Academy’ approach since early 2016. See my personal story here.

What is your coaching philosophy?

My coaching philosophy over-all is to support my clients, raise their self-awareness, create clarity and help them to reach their full potential and feel congruency within work and/or life.

By taking a step by step approach and making things manageable my clients make great progress and I am there to encourage them and to help them to take responsibility for their actions. This also allows them to be accountable to themselves and to be able to share their plans, action and successes with someone else (namely me, their coach!) in a totally confidential and non-judgmental arena. My aim is to build in sustainability and to empower so that success will continue in the future for my clients!

Tell me something that I don’t know about coaching?

I don’t yet know what you don’t know! Coaching however, from my own experience, is a great way to understand the challenges that a client may be facing and discovering the unhelpful neuro thought patterns and then discovering new more resourceful ways of thinking and taking action that gets results.

How much do you charge?

The ‘intake session’ as detailed above is totally free, giving you the chance to ensure that coaching is right for you.

If at the end of the intake session you think that it is not, then you would not be expected to commit to further sessions.

To get the full benefits of using a coach I would normally suggest an initial booking of a block of 6 x 1-hour sessions – cost £300. However, if you would prefer to book and pay week by week, the rate would be £55 for each 1-hour session (no minimum booking required).

I am also happy to consider a block booking for a team or small group or organisation and can look at a flexible package cost to meet your needs – please enquire specifying the details and requirements.
